The Ljubljana Marathon returns in October

The Ljubljana Marathon is the biggest running event in Slovenia. It gets bigger every year and the number of competitors is constantly growing. Last year almost 20,000 running enthusiasts took part and this record participation was followed by two new Ljubljana Marathon records, set by runners from Kenya. At the 15th Ljubljana Marathon, which takes place from 23 to 24 October 2010, runners will compete in the full marathon (42 km), the half marathon (21 km) and recreational runs over various distances.

Measuring results at large-scale running events is done with the help of microchips. This will also be the case at the 15th Ljubljana Marathon. The microchip measuring system works on the principle of a transmitter and receiver. The microchip is recognised by electronic mats positioned at the start, along the course and at the finish. The chip does not contain a battery but is activated when it enters a magnetic field, where it emits a code. The electronic mat receives the code and transmits it to a computer.
