New features in Slovenias ski resorts

Slovenia has several dozen ski areas, currently opening in readiness for this year`s skiing season. Each in its own way offers a perfect experience of fun and enjoyment on the snow.

Snow forecasts for this winter are good, while snowmaking equipment ensures that there is plenty of snow even in milder winters. The chief advantage of Slovenia`s ski areas is that almost all of them offer a direct connection with the valley below. Ease of access, proximity to urban centres, small size and variety are characteristics of almost every ski area in Slovenia.

Slovenia offers skiing in unspoilt natural surroundings on well-tended, well-equipped slopes. Slovenia`s ski areas are currently completing their preparations for the winter season. New features this year include a new cable car, a new hotel and more snowmaking facilities, and service providers are promising even better quality.

At Rogla a new snowmaking reservoir constructed during the summer will allow 55 snow cannon to cover the slopes in just two weeks.

At Golte work is currently being completed on the construction of a new four-star hotel complex due to open in mid-December. The 116-bed hotel will also offer a conference suite, function rooms and a wellness centre. Accommodation for skiers will also include 32 apartments with a total of 160 beds.

At Kope and Ribniško Pohorje the focus has been on accommodation: this season there will be 900 beds in Kope and 200 new beds in two apartment houses in Ribnica na Pohorju.

At Krvavec a new feature this season will be night tobogganing on Fridays and Saturdays. A ski cross course (groomed on a daily basis) is available for extreme skiing enthusiasts. Once again this year, visitors can stay in the Igloo Village.

At Vogel an enlarged and modernised children`s nursery with new equipment is being prepared for this season. Vogel will also get a new nightspot where skiers can party long into the night.

At Kanin the focus this year has been on the introduction of new facilities. The connection with the Sella Nevea ski resort on the Italian side of the border has doubled the number of runs and lifts. This year there will also be a fun park, a ski nursery and babysitting service, and new restaurant options. On the Italian side, the ski school area has been enlarged and improved and the old drag lift has been replaced by a magic carpet.
