Slovenia tops two prestigious travel guide lists

"Slovenija, od kod lepote tvoje" (Slovenia, from whence thy beauty) goes the popular song by the Avsenik Brothers Ensemble from 1974. But Slovenian natural and cultural attractions, the friendly people and the unique cuisine are not only sung about. On several occasions, Slovenia has appeared on lists featuring the most interesting destinations in the world. This time it was included on two reputable travel guide lists. It tops the list of Matador, an independent American media company, and was chosen as one of the most attractive destinations by users of the well-known Rough Guide guidebooks. One of their readers wrote that with its diversity Slovenia is one of the most beautiful and surprising countries in the world.

Among select world destinations not to be missed this year, Matador, an independent US media company, recommends exotic Burma, Brazil, the Philippines, Panama, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Namibia and only three European countries: Slovenia, Norway and Scotland. Matador describes Slovenia as a land of many ski slopes, protected natural parks, rich heritage and numerous castles. As worth visiting it points out Bled Castle, Predjama Castle, Bohinj and Postojna Cave.

Matador Networks with a global reach of over two million visitors per month describes itself as the largest tourism publisher on the web. This awarded media company has been operating since 2006. It presents cultures, people and places; it offers room for a global discussion about political, social, historical and economic backgrounds and broadens travellers` horizons.

Rough Guide readers also voted for the top countries worth visiting this year. As they say at the SPIRIT public agency, Slovenia received a lot of love from the users of these well-known tourist guides and made the list of the five most desired destinations for 2014. One of the travellers wrote on Facebook that she still cannot comprehend what a beautiful country Slovenia is. Aside from Slovenia, Rough Guide users recommend Chile, Malaysia, Wales and Pakistan.
