This year Bled’s Grand Hotel Toplice is celebrating its venerable 80th anniversary. It was back in 1931 that one of the most modern hotels in the entire area was built on the site of the former Luisenbad Hotel on the shores of Lake Bled. In the Sava Hotels Bled company, the parent group of this sole five-star hotel in Bled, the anniversary will be marked with a range of events.

On Saturday, 9 April, the Grand Hotel Toplice will open an exhibition offering an insight into the history of the hotel and development of Bled tourism, with which the hotel is inextricably linked. The exhibition is being prepared in cooperation with the Gorenjski Museum of Kranj. This will be followed by an official dinner to which long-time domestic and foreign guests of the hotel as well as leading partners will be invited. On Sunday, 10 April, the hotel will open its doors to visitors. Accompanied by historians and by former and current employees, they will be able to tour the exhibition and some of the more historically interesting parts of the hotel.

The Grand Hotel Toplice is also putting together a series of thematic actions to mark the anniversary. All guests staying at the hotel between 1 March and the end of the year will receive special gift certificates for hotel services worth 80 euros. Half of this amount can be used by the recipients themselves on a later visit, while the certificate for the other half can be given as a gift to their friends or acquaintances. At the same time, guests will be able to enhance their stay at the hotel with some unique experiences.

The Grand Hotel Toplice is recognised today as one of the most distinguished hotels in Slovenia, and since 2009 it has been the only Slovenian member of the international Small Luxury Hotels of the World association. Despite several remodels, it has retained its recognisable image from 1931, which was designed by the Austrian architect Franz Baumgartner. Most recently the hotel was comprehensively renovated in 2002 and 2003. One of its special features is a covered swimming pool with its own thermal spring, built in the style of a Roman spa, a feature that was arranged back in the 1920s. It is that very same thermal water (in Slovenian: toplice) that gave the hotel its name. Jula Molnar, who bought the former Hotel Luisenbad in 1919, renamed it Toplice in 1922, and following renovation and reconstruction in 1931, added the word “Grand”, with some justification given the very latest comforts that the hotel had acquired.
