March 2011 sees 9% more tourist arrivals and 7% more overnig

Compared to March 2010, in March 2011 9% more tourist arrivals and 7% more overnight stays were registered. The number of overnights of domestic tourists increased by 3% and of foreign tourists by 11%. In the first quarter of this year the number of arrivals increased by 5% and the number of overnight stays by 3% compared to the same period last year.

Compared to March 2010, in March 2011 9% more tourist arrivals and 7% more overnight stays were registered in tourist accommodations. The number of overnight stays of domestic tourists increased by 3% and of foreign tourists by 11%.

In seaside, health (spa), mountain resorts and in Ljubljana more overnight stays compared to March 2010

In March 2011, the highest number of overnight stays was recorded in health (spa) resorts (40% of all overnight stays, which is 1% more than in March 2010). Regarding the number of overnight stays, second placed are mountain resorts with a 19% share and 2% more overnight stays than in the same period of the previous year. In the same comparison seaside resorts (18% of all overnight stays) recorded 14% more overnight stays.

Compared to the same period of the previous year, Ljubljana (9% of all overnight stays) recorded the highest increase in the number ob overnights stays, by 23 %.

In March 2011 tourists from Italy, Austria and Croatia made the highest number of overnight stays

Overnight stays of foreign tourists represented 50% of all overnight stays in March 2011. The highest shares of those were contributed by tourists from Italy (25%), followed by tourists from Austria (15%), Croatia (9%), Germany (9%), Hungary (6%) and Serbia (5%).

Compared to March 2010, more overnight stays were registered for tourists from Italy (by 38%), Croatia and Hungary (each by 27%), the Russian Federation (by 23%), Germany (by 11%) and those from Serbia (by 1%). The number of overnight stays of tourists from Austria decreased by 21%.

9% increase in overnight stays in hotels compared to March 2010

In March 2011, 73% of all overnight stays were registered in hotels, followed by holiday dwellings (7%). Private accommodations – rented rooms, dwellings represented a 2% share of the total overnight stays.

The number of overnight stays increased in mountain huts (by 32%), tourist farms with accommodation (by 12%), hotels (by 9%) and holiday dwellings (by 7%). In the same comparison the number of overnight stays decreased in private accommodations – rented rooms, dwellings (by 3%).

In the first quarter of 2011, 5% more tourist arrivals were registered in tourist accommodations compared to the same period of the previous year (3% more domestic tourist arrivals and 7% more foreign tourist arrivals). Tourists made 3% more overnight stays than in the same period of the previous year (the number of foreign overnight stays increased by 7% and of domestic tourists stayed approximately the same).
