Picture Slovenia - a New Way of Experiencing Slovenia

Picture Slovenia is an all-Slovenian project that is based on the idea of innovative promotion of Slovenia with the help of photography, exhibitions, and numerous accompanying diplomatic and cultural events across Slovenia and abroad. The connecting platform of the project is the web site and the PictureSlovenia.com medium.

PictureSlovenia.com is a place where major photo competitions take place with the aim of presenting the beauty of Slovenian heritage, nature, people, and customs. So far, more than 160,000 people from 65 countries worldwide have been able to see photographs of Slovenia.

The web section of the project is just a beginning of a long-term project, which will in 2011 and 2012 also take place in the form of over 30 physical exhibitions, predominantly in Europe. Thus, in June the exhibition of photographs will visit Spain twice and Germany once. This will be followed by exhibitions in Mexico, Hungary, Estonia, Great Britain, and Italy, which are scheduled to take place until September 2011.

On the occasion of Slovenia’s 20th birthday, which is celebrated in 2011, a series of activities has begun at www.pictureslovenia.com, starting with the photo competition “Picture Slovenia: 20 Years”. This will continue in June with a series of competitions, the underlying theme of which will be an ecologically-aware and green Slovenia. Among other things, upon the 20th anniversary of Slovenian independence, Picture Slovenia will invite international public to take part in the first major international competition for the best photo of Slovenia, which will involve prizes for the following categories:

- The prize for the Best Photo of Slovenia (EUR 10,000);

- The prize for the Best Mobile Photo of Slovenia (EUR 5,000);

- The prize for the Best Web Article about Slovenia (EUR 3,000).

A mobile phone photography competition is also under preparation and is predominantly intended for tourists, who will visit Slovenia in the summer of 2012. The best shot will also be rewarded.
