Old Istrian style holidays - Nature and tranquility

The Slovenian Istria experience is now made richer with new and innovative accommodations. In addition to conventional hotels, private rooms and suites, guests can now choose to spend this summer completely differently by staying in an authentic old Istrian style accommodation in the Houses of Slovenian Istria. The houses bring to life authentic Istrian architecture and stories and are situated in an environment surrounded by nature and tranquillity.

The houses are located in the idyllic Truške village above Koper, standing in the midst of a vineyard and offering a magnificent view over the Koper Bay. The houses feature typical Istrian architecture such as the gabled roof, imitation of frames, typical Istrian wooden windows, doors, shutters, rough plaster walls and façade colours typical for the time period after the Second World War. The authentic furniture from the late 19th and mid 20th century creates a special and authentic atmosphere. In each house hides the history of the Slovenian Istria and the stories of Šavrinke, Istrian girls and women, bearing the name of Krušarica (bread), Mlekarica (milk) and Jajčarica (eggs), depending on which local produce the Šavrinke women took to the Istrian towns to sell.

The houses are already available for booking and guests have the opportunity to gather herbs and seasonal fruits and vegetables that can be found in front of each of the houses. They also have a fireplace available, ideal for socialising in the evenings along with a nice glass of the local Refošk wine. Each house represents an independent unit and can accommodate two or three persons. The Houses of Slovenian Istria is part of the camping ground but has neither electricity nor water inside. Sanitary facilities are set up separately.

Upon checking in, guests will receive all that is required for appropriate lighting. In the event of larger groups, tents can be put up next to the houses. Breakfast is available in the nearby home-style restaurant or can be delivered to the doorsteps at an arranged hour. The basket of homemade breakfast consists of homemade bread, homemade jam, homemade cheese and seasonal fruit and vegetables.

The Houses of Slovenian Istria project received an award from the Koper Municipality and from the Idea Development Competition for the best innovative projects under the Slovenian Tourist Board. The project included the participation of the Koper Regional Archives, the Koper Regional Museum and historian Alberto Pucer.
