One-day excursions with a touch of the sea and wine

The wine-growing sub-region of Koper is one of the most beautiful in Slovenia. Lit by the sun, the vineyards flirt with the sea on one side and with the hills on the other side. In the summer, the Mediterranean climate keeps them warm and in winter the cold bora whips down from the mainland. Because of this, their wines, which are offered to you by friendly locals and recognised wine cellars, have developed a distinctive taste and identity, which cannot be found anywfhere else. Furthermore, the idyllic landscape of vines includes many stone built Istrian villages. You can take shelter in these and find refreshments and rest during the exploration of this wine-growing landscape with a number of one-day tours. Guests can enjoy a variety of one-day trips on the Slovenian coast.

Start your day in Koper, by viewing the winery of Vinakoper – one of the most beautiful wineries in Slovenia and one of the largest in Istria. There you will surely be impressed by the biggest barrel in Slovenia, which with its capacity of more than 41,000 litres was considered the largest in Europe for many years. Visit oil mills and churches and the idyllic village of Krvavče, where the bedrock supports the whole village, and into which the square in front of the church is paved.

Taste the culinary delights on the fruit farm or have a spring experience with the lunch “Šavrinska južina” in the time of the popular Istrian Osmica (Eight). This is a name for taverns, in which the winegrowers were able to sell their wine tax-free for eight days a year. Winegrowers usually organise the “Osmica” in a room where the wine is stored: in the cellar or in the canteen. Guests are welcome to raise their glasses with some “Refošk”, the popular wine in Koper.

During the days of “Osmica”, a number of tourist providers of Koper Tourist Board can show you the way to the ancient Istrian villages.
