The winter fairy tale of ski resorts

Everyone who can’t do without a true winter atmosphere, skiing and other winter delights during festive December or during the winter months will be taken care of by Slovenian winter ski resorts. The ski resorts have been expecting this winter with a number of new features in their skiing and additional offer. The opening of the winter season is just ahead of us and they have prepared attractive holiday packages just for us. Here are some winter tips for the coming festive December in Slovenian ski resorts ...

The winter fairy tale of ski resorts

Slovenia has long been a popular skiing destination known for its safe and diverse ski slopes when compared to the neighbouring traditional skiing countries. Many ski slopes are family-friendly and almost all are connected to the valley, not to mention the quality and tradition of ski schools. The skiing offer is complemented by the additional diverse winter offer – from cross-country skiing, sledging and skating to an attractive wellness offer.

Slovenian ski centres provide 300 km of ski slopes and 280 km of cross-country ski trails. Among the most famous ski centres are Kranjska Gora, Mariborsko Pohorje, and Rogla. In addition, over forty other mountain centres should not be overlooked – Krvavec, Kanin and Vogel are among the largest, along with many small centres, which attract thousands of skiers every year. This year’s novelties include investments into infrastructure and numerous offers of ski schools, kindergartens, snow parks, special events, gastronomy and entertainment, as well as the uniform Ski Pass Slovenia, available as an individual seasonal ski pass, family ski pass or 6-day tourist ski pass. When you buy the pass, you automatically become a holder of the Active Slovenia advantage card, which entitles you to additional benefits in the summer months.

Here are some winter tips for the coming festive December:

- The atmosphere of a true ski resort can also be found in Kranjska Gora with its diverse offer of hotels, boarding houses and apartments. All major hotel providers have prepared special holiday packages and attractive New Year’s Eve parties. Check the offer at Kranjska Gora’s official web page.

- The fairy tale image of a lake, island and a castle standing on an overhang high above the lake as well as an enchanting Advent spirit can be found at world renowned Bled. As usual, this year, a number of traditional events will be organised – on Christmas day you can see the Legend of the Sunken Bell and on New Year’s Day you can go to the Gala New Year concert, and all through December, there will be numerous events and a diverse fair. Did you know that there is a ski slope ascending over Lake Bled? While Bled is not a classical winter sports centre, it still provides for those who enjoy skiing. Both skiers and snowboarders alike will enjoy the Straža ski area, only a few minutes’ walk from the centre of Bled. The slopes are equipped with artificial snow machines and lit for night skiing. The hotels have taken care of planning even more overwhelming events as well! Check the festive offers and hotel packages at Bled’s official web page.

- If you like an easy-going winter atmosphere, Bohinj is just the place for you, with its mysterious winter image of the largest Slovenian natural lake from which you can set off on a number of winter adventures. You can choose from several skiing options (ski resorts Vogel, Kobla, Soriška planina, Pokljuka and Senožeta). Check the happening and hotels on the official web page of Bohinj.

- What about Maribor, the capital of the Štajerska region and the second largest city in the country; agreeably small and caught in the breathtaking nature of the green or rather white Pohorje hills. An excellent choice for all who love a combination of city festivities (and Maribor will definitely be full of action!) and skiing adventures just a stone’s throw away. You can choose one of the city hotels, the hotel at the finishing area of the ski arena or one of the smaller hotels and boarding houses on the ski slope. More info at Maribor – Pohorje’s official web page.

- Perhaps a less classical ski adventure can be experienced through a combination of indulgence in the urban capital of Ljubljana and skiing at Krvavec, a ski resort quickly accessible from Ljubljana. Where else can you experience a capital along with true winter delights in such a simple way? Check the offer of Ljubljana hotels and skiing at Krvavec.

The whole winter fairy tale and ski offer is available on the ski resort web sites. You can access them here.
