Ljubljana got its Museum of Contemporary Art
At the end of November, the Slovenian capital opened the first 21st century museum in Slovenia. The Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova (MSUM) is, as a unit of the Modern Gallery, located in the new cultural quarter of Ljubljana being formed in the area of the former military barracks and in the vicinity of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia. The new museum is being opened with the exhibition Present and Presence.

At the end of November, the Slovenian capital opened the first 21st century museum in Slovenia. The Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova (MSUM) is, as a unit of the Modern Gallery, located in the new cultural quarter of Ljubljana being formed in the area of the former military barracks and in the vicinity of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia. The new museum is being opened with the exhibition Present and Presence.
The MSUM will feature a home for the collection of modern art (national and foreign collection Arteast 2000+) and corresponding exhibition programme. The Metelkova location will also host the common departments of the extended institution: archives, library and restoration workshop.
The Museum`s permanent exhibition, Present and Presence, brings together works by Slovenian, Balkan and Eastern European artists created from the 1960s to the present day. Themed on the concept of contemporaneity, the exhibition deals with various forms of time. Apart from the permanent exhibition, the Museum also hosts several interactive projects and occasional thematic exhibitions.
