Maribor 2012 – The European Capital of Culture brings a touch of playfulness to all six partner towns, as plenty of projects are intended for children and youth, the future of our culture. Maribor, Ptuj, Murska Sobota, Velenje, Slovenj Gradec and Novo mesto already provide plenty of opportunity for entire families to indulge in the towns and surrounded nature.

The Puppets Minority at the Maribor Puppet Theatre, which is known to be one of the most beautiful in Europe, for example, organizes the richest programme ever in the inspiring surroundings of the former Conventual Franciscans monastery and at some other venues. High-quality theatrical productions, the International Puppet Festival, research-based production workshops, and other innovations offer an attractive mix of events for children and adults. Moreover, international storytellers within the project European Fairytale will take us into the stories of various European nations.

Since summer holidays always offer limitless possibilities for children, families will be able to hike around Pohorje, take part in the adrenaline park, horse-ride, etc., as well as spending a creative summer at the Aye Festival in Ptuj or at the Reading Room in Maribor’s city park and at Art camp, where they will experience the culture of Slovenia and the world through numerous festivals. Every single child should know Pippi Longstocking, the hostess of one of the finest children’s festivals in this part of Europe, the Pippi Longstocking Festival, which will take part in Velenje.

Maribor 2012 will be full of creative workshops, from art, music, photography to film and literature all year long. We invite all grandparents, mums, dads, and of course all children to join us.
