The European Capital of Culture Maribor 2012 will be more accessible from now on. Namely, a mobile application, Maribor 2012, is available and presents, in a modern way, the events of the European Capital of Culture, offering to users various possibilities – events calendar, recent news, locations of events, contents of the Lifetouch project and various thematic guides; moreover, the contents are constantly being upgraded. At this moment, the guide is available for the Android platform and in the future will become available for the iOS platform (iPad, iPhone, etc.).

Besides the extensive selection of current events, it is also possible to review upcoming and highlighted events, read the news, obtain information on locations, which can also be found on a map, all on your mobile phone. The Maribor 2012 application, which will be supplemented and upgraded with new contents throughout the year, is now already offering other digital guides for the European Capital of Culture (for the projects Severni sij and Ulični strip, presentations of partnership towns, etc.).

The geolocation services, especially, should be mentioned; namely, they provide visitors with information with regard to their local context (position) and represent an excellent tool for tourists. A lot of attention is also paid to the augmented reality, providing an upgrade for the Layar browser. Augmented reality enables a mobile device to show information that is a combination of the digital and physical world; in other words, one can use his mobile phone in the centre of Maribor, direct it towards a location and receive information on the Maribor 2012 programme in that building.

The Maribor 2012 application can be downloaded free-of-charge by seeking the Maribor 2012 Android application in the Google Play store. The upgrade for the Layar browser is also available under Maribor 2012.
