In March, 10% more domestic and 5% more foreign tourists

After February 2012, which brought the same results as the same month of last year, Slovenian tourism in March has again recorded a significant increase. In March 2012, tourists created 7% more tourist arrivals and 4% more overnight stays in tourist accommodations, while a review of the first three months of 2012 shows that in comparison with the same period last year, 3% more tourist arrivals were registered in tourist accommodations. In the same comparison, the number of overnight stays increased by 1%.

After February 2012, which brought the same results as the same month of last year, Slovenian tourism in March has again recorded a significant increase. In March 2012, tourists created 7% more tourist arrivals and 4% more overnight stays in tourist accommodations, while a review of the first three months of 2012 shows that in comparison with the same period last year, 3% more tourist arrivals were registered in tourist accommodations. In the same comparison, the number of overnight stays increased by 1%.

Compared to March 2011, in March 2012 7% more tourist arrivals and 4% more overnight stays were registered. The number of tourist arrivals of domestic tourists increased by 10% (who generated only 3.6% more overnight stays) and of foreign tourists by 5% (who also generated 3.6% more overnight stays).

In March 2012, domestic and foreign tourists in Slovenia each represented half of tourist overnight stays. The highest shares of foreign overnight stays were contributed by tourists from Italy (20%), Austria (17%), Croatia and Germany (9% each), and Hungary and the Russian Federation (6% each).

Compared to March 2011, in March 2012 tourists from the Russian Federation created 44% more overnight stays, tourists from Austria 21% more, tourists from Croatia 13% more, tourists from Serbia 6% more and tourists from Germany 4% more; higher numbers were also recorded for tourists from some other countries. At the annual level, the number of overnight stays by tourists from Italy decreased by 17% and by tourists from Hungary by 3%.

Compared to March 2011, in March 2012, seaside and mountain resorts recorded good results
In March 2012, the number of tourist arrivals was the highest in health (spa) resorts (29%); these resorts also recorded the highest number of overnight stays, 39% or 1% more than in March 2011. Second placed were mountain resorts, where 20% of all tourist overnight stays were recorded, which is 4% more than in March 2011.

In the same comparison, seaside resorts (18% of all tourist overnight stays) recorded a 7% annual increase in overnight stays. The municipality of Ljubljana, with a 9% share of all tourist overnight stays, recorded a 3% decrease in the number of tourist overnight stays (tourist arrivals increased by 3%).

In March 2012, 80% of tourist arrivals and overnight stays in hotels and holiday dwellings
In March 2012, most (73% of all) overnight stays were registered in hotels, followed by holiday dwellings (7% of all overnight stays).

Compared to March 2011, in March 2012, the number of tourist arrivals in hotels and holidays dwellings increased by 6%; the number of overnight stays in hotels increased by 3%, while in holiday dwellings it remained about the same as in the previous year.

From January to March of 2012, 3% more tourist arrivals were registered in tourist accommodations compared to the same period of the previous year. In the same comparison, the number of overnight stays increased by 1%. In the first three months of this year, about the same number of overnight stays of domestic tourists was recorded over the same period of the previous year, while the number of foreign overnight stays increased by 3%.
