New offers in the first EDEN destination, the Soča Valley

In 2008, EDEN’s theme was tourism and local intangible heritage. The Soča Valley, with its rich World War I heritage was selected as Slovenias first winner, while the emerald beauty, the Soča River, leaves an unforgettable mark and pulse on this destination. The tourist destinations Bovec, Kobarid and Tolmin have surprised us with new features throughout the years, while the dynamics this summer are especially strong, including several new features in the accommodation offer, adrenaline parks and international festivals.

The Soča Valley offer is richer for the new hotel Sanje by the Soča River in Bovec, two new camps in Kobarid and Tolmin, two new hostels in Kobarid, while the new eco tourist farm Robidišče, located in the most Western Slovenian village and revived by the locals, offers excellent domestic food as well as harmony of nature and tradition.

In the Koren camp in Kobarid, the Soča Trend sports agency opened a new adrenaline park for all sport enthusiasts, while the largest zip line park in Central Europe has opened in Bovec in the first third of June. Four wire ropes above the Krnica Valley, between 500 and 600 meters long, will enthral visitors with beautiful panoramic views (you can also view the presentation video).

Bovec will also again host a film production; namely, the second part of the popular Slovenian scout-themed film ‘Gremo mi po svoje’, which broke many records, will be shot in the area.

In July and at the beginning of August, the Soča Valley will also host outdoor music festivals that have definitely placed this destination on the map of European festivals in recent years. The traditional Metalcamp, at the confluence of the rivers Tolminka and Soča, will definitely again have the largest, including international, participation. In the previous month, several sports spectacles have been organised, including a very demanding mountain marathon of four municipalities – GM40, which also hosted a World Championship last year; furthermore, the Soča Valley Hiking Festival has been announced and will be held in September and October.

Applications are also open for the 5th International Tourist Workshop `Natour Alps`, a workshop for active spending of leisure time in nature, organised in the Soča Valley this year. Moreover, the Soča Valley also participates, as a partner, in the Picture Slovenia project, where awards will be given for the best photographs in the area of the municipalities Bovec, Kobarid and Tolmin.

About Soča Valley (STORIES OF THE SOČA ALONG THE PATH OF PEACE):

Every year the mighty KLUŽE FORTRESS is the venue for STORIES OF THE SOČA: a re-creation of times past in the valley of the river Soča, from ethnological curiosities to the remains of the heritage of a cruel war. Stories of the surprising valley draw visitors to the Path of Peace, which connects the beauties of nature with memories of the First World War and the Soča (Isonzo) Front. The message of peace echoes among the Alpine peaks above the emerald river and into every corner of TRIGLAV NATIONAL PARK.

No one who walks the Path of Peace from Log pod Mangartom in the Bovec area to Drežnica in the Kobarid area and to Mengor in the Tolmin area will forget the obligations of peace! The `Stories of the Soča` event takes place in spring but the valley draws visitors seeking active experiences all year round. One of the best conserved areas in Europe, it is popular with hikers, cyclists, lovers of water sports (canoeing, rafting, canyoning), anglers, hillwalkers and climbers, paragliders, skiers and others seeking an active holiday.
