The Savica Hotel, which is considered to be a specialised family hotel among the Sava Hotels Bled of the Sava Turizem Group, won the EU Flower, i.e. the eco-label awarded by the European Union for environmentally friendly tourist accommodation, at the beginning of October. Hence, it joined the respectable group of Slovenian hotels, tourist farms and campsites that show their responsibility towards the environment with an official environmental label as well.

The Savica Hotel (at Bled) received the EU Flower for its positive attitude towards environmental protection, quality living conditions and contemporary technical solutions in respect of efficient use of energy and renewable sources. “The acquisition of the EU Flower is a sort of confirmation of the efforts made in the sustainable development of tourism, since we wish to take over the leading role in this area and become a promoter of sustainable tourism in the town and widely,” said Fedja Pobegajlo, the CEO of Sava Hotels Bled, upon receiving the label.

Pursuant to the criteria to obtain the EU Flower label, the Savica Hotel must provide at least 50% of its electricity from renewable energy sources. All windows have a suitable degree of thermal and acoustic insulation, air conditioning devices turn off automatically if a window is opened and around 90% of light bulbs are energy-saving, while waste waters are treated prior to their release into the sewage system. The Hotel does not use pesticides or fertilisers to maintain its exterior surfaces. It uses cleaning agents, chemicals and textile, paper and other products that carry one of the environmental labels and is consistent in its waste sorting practice, also encouraging its guests to be environmentally friendly. The Hotel uses organically produced food when preparing meals for guests and favours local providers when selecting its suppliers.

The activities carried out in the field of sustainable development, which were united under the brand “Green for tomorrow” by Sava Hotels Bled, include products that are designed under the principle of green tourism as well as projects that reduce the impact on the environment, contribute to a more economic treatment of sources and, at the same time, promote the sustainable activities of employees. Major projects include the eco forest fairy village at Camping Bled, a product of green gatherings within the scope of the congress offer, the ornithology trail in the area of the Bled Golf course, where guests can go bird spotting, while actions for the reduction of the carbon footprint are being implemented successfully at Camping Bled.
