Winter pleasures with a visit to an Alpine Skiing World Cup

If you are a sports fan, it is worth visiting Slovenia and its ski resorts, especially during the Skiing World Cup races. Several will be held in Slovenia from December to March. You should combine an active or relaxing winter vacation with a visit to a World Cup race; with this, you will fully feel the winter atmosphere – from Kranjska Gora and Planica to Rogla and Mariborsko Pohorje.

As a ski centre, Kranjska Gora’s greatest fame has undoubtedly come from hosting the Alpine Skiing World Cup. Each winter, the world’s best slalom and giant slalom skiers vie with each other on the competition slopes below Vitranc. This winter will be the 52th Vitranc Cup, and it will take place from 9 to 10 March 2013.

Mariborsko Pohorje will be the venue of the Golden Fox Cup scheduled to take place on 26 and 27 January 2013. This is an event that leaves a strong mark on Slovenia and Maribor, the capital of Štajerska. The event has been organised on Mariborsko Pohorje since 1964, while only rarely, including this year, has the race been organised in Kranjska Gora due to lack of snow.

Then there is Rogla, which boasts a true winter and sports atmosphere amidst its fairytale forests. Rogla already hosted World Cup races in cross-country skiing and is scheduled to do so again on 20 and 21 December 2013, while the World Cup race in snowboarding (parallel giant slalom) will be held on 8 February 2013.

In Planica, the valley of ski jumps, considered to be the crib of ski flying, each year more than 80,000 sports fans gather. This year, Planica will host the World Ski Jumping Championship between 21 and 24 March 2013 when new record achievements will again be achieved.
