Each December, Bled takes care of a very special holiday atmosphere. The fairytale image of a lake, an island and a castle standing on a rocky overhang above the lake as well as an enchanting Advent spirit can only be found at this world-renowned Alpine pearl. After a good summer tourist season, Bled is already impatiently awaiting the winter season. They have prepared several unique events, such as the traditional deluge of the bell and circle of friendship when several thousand people hold their hands around Lake Bled.

On Christmas day you can see the Legend of the Sunken Bell and on New Year’s Day you can go to the Gala New Year concert, and all through December, there will be numerous events and a diverse fair.

Did you know that there is a ski slope ascending over Lake Bled? While Bled is not a classical winter sports centre, it still provides for those who enjoy skiing. Both skiers and snowboarders alike will enjoy the Straža ski area, only a few minutes’ walk from the centre of Bled. The slopes are equipped with artificial snow machines and lit for night skiing.

The hotels have taken care of planning even more overwhelming events as well!

The main international event in Bled and its surroundings will be the December biathlon race on Pokljuka (12 to 16 December 2012). Beside the regular winter events, the second Advent weekend called `Potica day on Bled island` (8 December 2012) will especially diversify this year`s winter happenings in Bled. A potica bakery will open its doors – one ticket will be valid for a trip to the island, entry to the church where the programme will unfold and potica tasting.

An interesting winter will also happen in Velika Zaka where, besides an open ice rink, a world of ice sculptures will come to life; the camping area will be used for cross-country skiing.

If you like a more easy-going winter atmosphere, you can head from Bled towards Bohinj, with its mysterious winter image of the largest Slovenian natural lake from which you can set off on a number of winter adventures. You can choose from several skiing options (ski resorts Vogel, Kobla, Soriška planina, Pokljuka and Senožeta). Check the happening and hotels on Bohinj’s official web page.
