The best Slovenian Alpine skier Tina Maze has been breaking all the records this season and her achievements are being noticed even beyond the snowy peaks. Alpine skiing has played an important role in the hearts of all Slovenians for decades; namely, Slovenians have always enthusiastically followed the achievements of our Alpine skiers. The success of the 29-year-old Tina Maze from Črna has made this season really incredible!

Tina Maze learnt to ski at the age of three, while in elementary school she entered the Ski Club Črna na Koroškemin a small Slovenian village in the Koroška region under the mighty Peca mountain where she used to live. During secondary school, as a member of the Slovenian B team, she participated in her first FIS competitions and won 2nd and 1st place with starting numbers 121 and 125. Since then, her career only continued upwards and it was only a matter of time until she would win the overall title.

With her recent victory in downhill, she became the first skier in the World Cup to surpass the 2,000 points limit; Tina received congratulations for the record achievement from numerous athletes even outside Alpine skiing. Primož Peterka is the only other Slovenian athlete who has won an overall title; namely, he was the best ski jumper in the world in the seasons 1996/97 and 1997/98.

The first victory of Tina Maze in Super-G on 13 January 2013 in St. Anton also ranked her among the small group of skiers who have managed to win in all disciplines; moreover, by winning the downhill in Garmisch on 2 March 2013, she became part of the group of skiers (besides Petra Kronberger and Janica Kostelić) who have managed to achieve victories in all disciplines in the same season.

`This season has been incredible for me. The 2000 point limit was not my goal; my goal was simply to win some small crystal globes and then the big one. I think this is a historic day, for me, my team, and Slovenia!` said Maze at one of her last milestones when the 2000 limit was surpassed.

This year`s skiing season has been really amazing for Slovenia. Along with the successes and records of Tina Maze, Slovenian Nordic athletes and the main figure of the Slovene biathlon team, Jakov Fak, have also been terrific. Slovenia also hosted another top-level World Cup competition last weekend – after the Golden Fox event on Pohorje, Kranjska Gora carried out the traditional Vitranc Ski World Cup event, while the ski flying in Planica will take place between 21 and 24 March when new records will be set again.
