Between 9 and 12 May 2013, the Soča Valley, together with Kobarid and Bovec, will host the European Wildwater Canoeing Championship called Soča 2013. The competition events will be accompanied by a rich entertainment program with sports activities, cultural events and concerts. All this will take place on and along one of the most beautiful European rivers, the emerald beauty, Soča. 2013 will be extremely active on the Soča; namely, it will also host the European Wildwater Canoeing Championship (sprint) in Solkan in June.

Bovec and Kobarid have embraced the Championship with open arms, since the competition at a similar level took place last at the upper part of Soča in 1991. The route on which the World Championship took place in 1991 is quite well known in the kayaking world.

The competition section of the Soča 2013 Championship is organised by the Kayak Association of Slovenia and Soške elektrarne Kayak Club. 150 to 170 athletes from 16 to 18 countries are expected. The competition events in Bovec and Kobarid will be accompanied by a rich entertainment program with sports activities, cultural events and concerts. The wild rapids of the Soča River invite kayakers from all over Europe to compete against each other at the European Championship. The banks of the Soča invite kayak enthusiasts and anyone else who’s curious to cheer for the best whitewater and sprint competitors from all over Europe as well as to come and take part in the events at Bovec and the many activities made possible by the beautiful natural surroundings of the Soča River. This year’s winter has been extremely generous with precipitation; therefore, favourable conditions are expected on the Soča River during the spring months.

However, the Championship in Bovec and Kobarid is not the only challenge for the association and club this year; namely, the World Kayak Championship is in preparations to take place in Solkan in June 2013.

More about Soča 2013 can be found here, while the events can also be followed on Facebook at SOCA Kayak RACE Fever.
