March 2013 shows good results

There were 2% more tourist arrivals and 3% more tourist overnight stays registered in tourist accommodations in Slovenia in March 2013 over March 2012 - there was increase in arrivals and overnight stays by foreiggn tourists and a decrease by domestic. In the first three months of this year about the same number of foreign tourist arrivals and overnight stays were registered.

In the first three months of this year about the same number of foreign tourist arrivals and overnight stays were registered.

More foreign tourists

There were 2% more tourist arrivals and 3% more tourist overnight stays registered in tourist accommodations in March 2013 over March 2012.

In the same comparison the number of domestic tourist arrivals and overnigh stays decreased by 7% and 6%, respectively, while the number of foreign tourist arrivals and overnight stays increased by 9% and 11%.

As regards the most important tourism markets, the highest increase in overnight stays by Italian and German tourists

In March 2013 in Slovenia foreign tourists made 54% of tourist overnight stays. Key European markets, from which the most overnight stays of foreign tourists in Slovenia were recorded, were Italy (23% of all foreign overnight stays), Austria (17%), Germany and Croatia (9% each), the Russian Federation and Hungary (5% each) and Serbia (4%).

As regards the important tourism markets, in March 2013 tourists from Italy created 30% more overnight stays over March 2012, tourists from Germany 23% more, from Croatia 13% more, from Austria 10% more and from the Russian Federation 2% more. In the same comparison tourists from Serbia made 9% fewer overnight stays and from Hungary 14% fewer overnight stays.

More tourist overnight stays also from overseas markets

Among distant, overseas markets tourists from the United States, Canada, Japan, China, Republic of Korea and other Asian countries contributed almost 5% of all foreign overnight stays.

Compared to March 2012, in March 2013 there were 142% more overnight stays of tourists from the Republic of Korea, 51% more from China, 56% more from other Asian countries and 6% more from the United States. Compared to March 2012, the number of overnight stays of Canadian and Japanese tourists decreased by 20% and 25%, respectively.

In health (spa) resorts about the same number of tourist overnight stays

Most tourists in March 2013 made overnight stays in health (spa) resorts, 38 % of all tourist overnight stays were recorded in these resorts. These resorts were followed by mountain resorts with a 20% share and by seaside resorts with a 19% share. Municipality Ljubljana recorded 9% of all tourist overnight stays.

A 6% increase was recorded in March 2013 in municipality Ljubljana. In seaside and mountain resorts 5% more tourist overnight stays were recorded. Health (spa) resorts recorded about the same number of overnight stays as in March 2012.

Fewer tourist overnight stays in apartment settlements and in camping sites

In March 2013 the most of tourist overnight stays were recorded in hotels (73%); followed by apartment settlements and company vacation facilities and vacation facilities for youth (6% of all overnight stays in each), camping sites (4% of all overnight stays) and private accommodations – rented rooms and dwellings (3% of all overnight stays).

Compared to March 2012, in March 2013 major increases in the number of tourist overnight stays were recorded in tourist farms with accommodation (by 55%), in youth hostels (by 44%), in private accommodations – rented rooms and dwellings (by 26%) and in mountain huts (by 14%). In the same period apartment settlements and camping sites recorded 3% fewer tourist overnight stays.

In the first three months of this year about the same number of foreign tourist arrivals and overnight stays

In the first three months of this year, 1% fewer tourist arrivals were registered in tourist accommodations than in the same period of the previous year. In the same comparison the number of tourist overnight stays decreased by 3%.

From January to March 2013 domestic tourists created 3% fewer tourist arrivals and 5% fewer overnight stays over the same period of the previous year. The number of foreign tourist arrivals and their overnight stays remained about the same.
