Supping – an increasingly popular way to discover Slovenia

Supping (abbreviation for Stand Up Paddling) has become popular in the world and in Slovenia. It is an excellent recreational activity in perfect harmony with nature, while at the same time an incredible way to discover new destinations from a totally new perspective. In Slovenia, you can sup on numerous rivers, lakes and the sea. You can even sup to the heart of the old city centre of the Slovenian capital, Ljubljana. Supping is fast becoming an exciting new tourist attraction!

Supping (abbreviation for Stand Up Paddling) has become popular in the world and in Slovenia. It is an excellent recreational activity in perfect harmony with nature, while at the same time an incredible way to discover new destinations from a totally new perspective. In Slovenia, you can sup on numerous rivers, lakes and the sea. You can even sup to the heart of the old city centre of the Slovenian capital, Ljubljana. Supping is fast becoming an exciting new tourist attraction!

Standing surfers with paddles in their hands can be seen in Slovenia on various water surfaces – among the most popular is definitely supping on the most famous Slovenian lakes – Lakes Bled and Bohinj, while a different type of experience is supping on the intermittent lake of numerous faces, Lake Cerknica or the neighbouring Planinsko polje that once or twice a year turns into a wide lake, from which only treetops grow. The Slovenian coast is also very popular, while the most noticeable suppers are definitely on the Ljubljanica River, winding through the centre of Ljubljana.

But there are many more water surfaces in Slovenia! Namely, Slovenia is a real water country. Despite its only 20,000 km2 of surface, it has 28,000 km of watercourses and more than 1300 lakes, which makes it among the richest countries in Europe with regard to the amount of river water per capita. Slovenia is also a marine country – it has only 46 kilometres of coast, but these are very diverse. The quick and easy accessibility to numerous unspoilt nature spots is also large advantage.

Experience nature, water and images that slide by as you sup – standing up paddling – completely different than from a boat or onshore. Supping is for anyone who enjoys walking, being in contact with nature and trying out something new! It can be enjoyed alone, in pairs or with families. One can also hire a guide that accompanies you on your water journey; sup boards can be rented near select watercourses in Slovenia.
