Ljubljana continues with excellent tourism statistics

In the midst of the August tourist peak and expecting fully occupied capacities during the European Basketball Championship, Ljubljana analysed the July results. These were very good and continued with an above-average growth level – in July, visitors to Ljubljana generated 9.2% more overnight stays than in July last year, while in seven months of 2013, Ljubljana surpassed last year`s record year (the second in a row) by 7.6%.

According to Ljubljana Tourism, 495,723 overnight stays (460,439 in the same period last year) were generated during the first seven months of 2013, which means that Ljubljana surpassed last year`s record results by 7.6 per cent or by 35,000 overnight stays. The data for August is not available yet; moreover, it will also be interesting to see the data for September when Ljubljana hosts EuroBasket 2013.

According to the forecasts of the EuroBasket 2013 organisers, between 25,000 and 30,000 basketball fans will stay in Slovenia for one or several nights to see the Championship. For Ljubljana, September is traditionally one of the most occupied months, since this is congress season – last September, Ljubljana hotels were 76.8% occupied, while this year they will be fully occupied – in other words, Ljubljana will generate between 40,000 to 50,000 more overnight stays. Effects will be analysed in October.
