For its 40th anniversary of existence, Lonely Planet included Slovenia in its special anniversary edition among the 40 best travel experiences in the world. Stumbling Over the Past in Slovenia written by Sophie McGrath was ranked in 17th place, describing the author`s experience during her visit in Slovenia and the Breginj village.

For their anniversary edition, the editors of the Lonely Planet Traveller magazine prepared a special title story entitled The World`s Greatest Travel Experiences, in which they share with their readers 40 amazing travel experiences that the authors of these beloved guides have experienced from its beginning until today.

In extremely strong competition of experiences from all over the world, Slovenia enthralled this time with a special story in which the author of the article was tightly linked to the history she experienced in the tiny village of Breginj near Kobarid in the Soča Valley.
The author prepared an article on the outdoor activities in the Soča Valley – the Soča Valley and its emerald Soča River are also most known for their outdoor activities; however, due to bad weather, a local guide directed her to visit a small private museum collection. In a small old house, she met with the incredible history of this part of Slovenia, characterized among others by the Soča Front, which was considered, due to its tough mountain terrain, to be one of the hardest battles in the First World War, while the area was also characterized by a strong earthquake in 1970`s. The author was touched by the story of people who have tried to preserve the history with the museum at the frontier of both natural and man-made destruction.
