Slovenia has gained a new innovative mobile application, E-Tourist, which allows individual tourists and smaller groups to discover experiences in Slovenia that would otherwise be provided by a qualified tourist guide. The application currently operates in the area of Central Slovenia and Slovenian Istria, while in the future it will expand to cover the rest of the country.

And how does this mobile application work? After downloading the application E-Tourist to your mobile phone, you will be prompted to enter your interests (culture, nature, sports, cuisine, etc.), the amount of time that you have at your disposal, the transport means for your travels and possible special needs and wishes. The system then populates a list of sights adjusted to your needs.

The application incorporates your wishes and leads you, through GPS navigation, from one point to another. If you are interested in recreation, the application will propose the possibilities for sports activities in the nearby surroundings, while also providing information on food, entertainment and other sights. Interesting events from the world of entertainment, active tourism, gastronomy, cultural and natural heritage can be followed not only for the current day, but over a number of days, while the application automatically subdivides the events by individual day.

Descriptions of sights are in the form of written and spoken text in several languages, accompanied by pictures. At each sight, the visitor can provide his/her own opinion, which the system will then take into account when preparing a program of sights for future visitors. This will also help tourist workers improve the tourist offer.

The application, intended for Slovenian and foreign tourists, is freely accessible in English for Android, BlackBerry, Microsoft Windows Phone and iOS operational systems. The application was developed by the Faculty of Tourism Studies – Turistica in partnership with the Jožef Štefan Institute and Litija Municipality.
