Slovenia.info portal optimised for mobile devices

Slovenia is finishing the project to optimise the www.slovenia.info portal for mobile communications. The optimised portal will make browsing through the Slovenian information portal www.slovenia.info (STIP) using mobile devices easier and a more enjoyable experience. In this way, the main Slovenian tourism website, which is visited by around 25,000 users every day, will be accessible to the widest possible circle of people searching for tourist information and adapted for all kinds of situations in which information is sought.

Slovenia is finishing the project to optimise the www.slovenia.info portal for mobile communications. The optimised portal will make browsing through the Slovenian information portal www.slovenia.info (STIP) using mobile devices easier and a more enjoyable experience. In this way, the main Slovenian tourism website, which is visited by around 25,000 users every day, will be accessible to the widest possible circle of people searching for tourist information and adapted for all kinds of situations in which information is sought.

The www.slovenia.info website will be revamped in accordance with the principles of responsive web design, which supports not only desktop and laptop computers, but also other devices such as smart phones, tablets, smaller screen laptops and handhelds regardless of the type of web browser used.

The use of mobile devices for tourist purposes is increasing and the same has been found to be true for the national tourism website www.slovenia.info as well. The analysis of user traffic on the Slovenian tourist information portal reveals that in 2012 www.slovenia.info was visited by 230% more people using mobile devices than in the previous year. At the beginning of 2013, we recorded a further increase of 100% compared with the same period in 2012.

Furthermore, according to Google’s The Traveler’s Road to Decision study (Google and Ipsos MediaCT, July 2012), 66% of tourists travelling for leisure purposes say they research and compare information online as they deem it important to find the best value for money before finally making a reservation. They increasingly do this on mobile devices – world trends show a remarkable rise in the use of mobile devices when choosing travel destinations, booking hotels and plane tickets, finding local information (restaurants, transport) and sharing experiences and opinions with friends upon coming back. As much as 36% of the travellers surveyed say that a poor, i.e. mobile-unfriendly, website discourages them from booking.
