And the Oscar for best skiing role in Slovenia goes to… Kranjska Gora – a skiing resort at the tri-border between Slovenia, Italy and Austria! At this year`s World Ski Awards, referred to in tourism as the Ski Oscars, Kranjska Gora won among the Slovenian ski centres. One of the oldest venues of Alpine Ski World Cup races is loved by beginners and professionals.

The Kranjska Gora snow experts prepared the first run of this season right beside the sea, in the 120-mile away Portorož. Open-ski took place, for the first time in the history of Slovenia, in the coastal region in mid October. The Slovenia Ski Association and ski equipment company Elan wanted to excite young people so they would actively spend their time on the artificial snow run right beside the sea.

And what winter pleasures does the Slovenian ski Oscar winner, which also took the award for the best ski hotel in Slovenia, offer? Skiers who are accomodated in various hotels and apartments are separated from the skiing areas only by the “snow beach”, where the white circus takes place each day. There are 18 ski runs of various difficulty levels, including the competition run in Podkoren, which is the venue of the slalom and giant-slalom World Cup race for men. In Kranjska Gora, you can also enjoy cross-country skiing, off-piste skiing and climbing on frozen waterfalls. A real treat, after the winter challenges, is provided by the numerous wellness centres and restaurants with family tradition. Each Sunday until 2 March, the end arena will act as an entertainment venue, while on Fridays the main square features the carving of ice scultpures. Moreover, this year, the ski lovers in Kranjska Gora will be excited about a special offer after 15 March. More on theSki for Free website!

The Vitranc Cup has been the highlight of Kranjska Gora winters since 1968. One of the best Alpine skiers of all times, Ingemar Stenmark, who competed with Slovenian Elan skis, used to say that the amazing atmosphere on Vitranc made him feel like a Slovenian. He experienced Kranjska Gora when he raced there and the crowd cheered for him, even though he stole many sweet Slovenian victories in the golden 80s. Come to Vitranc on 8 and 9 March 2014 – cheer for the best skiers in the world and have fun at the Q Max Party.

Maribor`s Pohorje was also among the nominees for the ski Oscar. The popular ski resort has prepared everything for a playful winter – not only excellent ski runs, but also XXL snow football, snowshoes walking, riding with pležuhs and a treasure hunt. Throughout February, the package Embrace of Snowflakes on Pohorje will be available with included wellness programme. In March, the Boom holidays begin. Furthermore, Pohorje eagerly expects the 50th Golden Fox, Alpine Ski World Cup for Women on 1 and 2 February 2014. In the 1960s, Slovenians from under the Alpine peaks used to laugh at the people of Maribor for claiming that they couldn’t organise large skiing events among the vineyards. However, the stubborness and will of the Golden Fox organisers managed to invite the best female skiers in the world to Maribor. Even the famous French sisters Goitschel, who were among the most famous Europeans of their time, came to Maribor. The best skier in the world, the Slovenian golden fox Tina Maze took care of the euphoria at last year`s 49th Golden Fox, which was visited by a record number of journalists and visitors. Let`s hope that Tina, who is also the new ambassador of the I Feel Slovenia trademark, will make a glorious return to Pohorje!
