Bohinj flower festival among top 10 European festivals

The renowned British tour operator INGHAMS has devoted two pages of its summer 2014 catalogue to the presentation of the ten best European festivals. Placed alongside distinguished names such as the Salzburg Music Festival in Austria, Oktoberfest in Germany and the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland there is also the International Wild Flower Festival in Bohinj.

This is important recognition for the Bohinj Wild Flower Festival, which builds its identity on the remarkable riches of wild alpine flowers in Bohinj and the mountains above it. Bohinj is becoming a well-recognised tourist destination not only at the regional and national level but also internationally. The next festival, the eighth one already, will take place between 24 May and 6 June 2014.

What’s more, the festival has just recently received another accolade. In mid-November a meeting of the European Destinations of Excellence (EDEN) network took place in Brussels. Within the scope of this year’s programme, prizes were awarded for innovative tourism projects for the first time. Bohinj Tourism registered the International Wild Flower Festival and earned special recognition, thus further strengthening the position of Bohinj as a quality tourism destination having a positive impact not only on the development of the local community but, through the Wildflower Europe project, spreading to other European countries as well.
