One of the most prestigious equestrian competitions in Celje

State-of-the-art Celje Equestrian Centre, one of the finest in Slovenia, will host a first-class equestrian event between 1 and 4 May. In early May, Celje Equestrian Centre will, under the auspices of the International Federation for Equestrian Sports, turn into a great sports arena where all eyes will be fixed on the graceful animals from all around the world. The four-day international event will reach its peak on Friday, 2 May, with the Nations Cup competition and on Sunday, 4 May, when the World Cup Grand Prix is to take place. Slovenia has a long-standing tradition of equestrianism and riding thanks to the cradle of world-famous white Lipizzan horses, which have been bred at the Lipica stud farm in the Karst for over four hundred years. Did you know that the Lipizzan are born black? Lipica Stud Farm is the oldest European stud farm breeding horses uninterruptedly since its establishment. Apart from being a cause of great pride for Slovenians, the noble Lipizzan horses delight fans of classical riding in the style of the Spanish Riding School of Vienna, with dressage performances and as carriage horses.

Experience Slovenia from the saddle! Visit equestrian centres, tourist farms and ranches, which will make you see the country of Lipizzan horses in a completely new light. You can ride horses around enclosed farm areas or follow guides across meadows and forests. Riding through landscape parks and Triglav National Park is another possibility and a very special experience.

Therapeutic horse riding or hippotherapy is gaining in popularity due to its positive effects on the body and mind. Experts say that riding in the countryside helps to develop one’s potential, social skills and humanity.
