February recorded an increasing number of foreign tourists

The data for February show that compared to February 2013, the number of all tourist arrivals decreased by 1%, while a 5% increase in arrivals of foreign tourists was seen. Among foreign tourists, most overnight stays were generated by Italian, Austrian, Croatian, Hungarian and Serbian tourists and tourists from the United Kingdom. Health resorts saw also in February the most overnight stays, namely in hotels, apartments and holiday settlements. The increase in overnight stays in hostels is also noticeable.

The data for February show that compared to February 2013, the number of all tourist arrivals decreased by 1%, while a 5% increase in arrivals of foreign tourists was seen. Among foreign tourists, most overnight stays were generated by Italian, Austrian, Croatian, Hungarian and Serbian tourists and tourists from the United Kingdom. Health resorts saw also in February the most overnight stays, namely in hotels, apartments and holiday settlements. The increase in overnight stays in hostels is also noticeable.

Most overall overnight stays were recorded in hotels, apartments and holiday settlements

In February 2014, the most overnight stays were recorded in hotels (68%), 8% stayed in apartments and holiday settlements, 5% stayed in private rooms, apartments and houses, and 4% in camping sites.

An increase in overnight stays in youth hostels

In comparison to February 2013, in February 2014 more overnight stays in youth hostels (23%) were recorded. Fewer overnight stays were recorded in hotels (2%), in private rooms, apartments and houses (3%), in camps (6 %) and in apartment and holiday settlements (10%).

Among foreign tourists, most overnight stays were generated by Italian, Austrian, Croatian, Hungarian and Serbian tourists and tourists from the United Kingdom

In February 2014, foreign tourists in Slovenia generated 42% of overnight stays, and they came from the following key markets: Italy (19%), Austria (14%), Croatia (13%), Hungary (7%), Serbia (6%) and the United Kingdom (also 6%).

Most overnight stays were recorded in health resorts

In February 2014 most of the tourists spent the night in health resorts, where 39% of all overnight stays were registered. Mountain resorts generated 28% of all overnight stays, seaside resorts recorded 12%, and the municipality of Ljubljana recorded 7% of overnight stays. In mountain resorts an 11% drop in overnight stays was recorded in comparison to February 2013, and 3% in the seaside resorts. In contrast, in the municipality of Ljubljana a 10% growth in the number of overnight stays was recorded.

Italian and Croatian tourists created more overnight stays

In Slovenia, February 2014, in comparison to February 2013, saw more overnight stays made by tourists from the key tourist markets of Italy (by 4%), Croatia (by 2%) and Hungary (by 1%). Tourists from Austria created 1% fewer overnight stays, tourists from Serbia 3%, tourists from Germany 11%, tourists from the United Kingdom 12% and tourists from the Russian Federation 13% fewer overnight stays.

Fewer tourist overnight stays from overseas countries

In terms of tourists from overseas markets, February 2014 saw fewer overnight stays as compared to February last year. Tourists from the United States created 13% fewer overnight stays, Chinese tourists 20% fewer overnight stays and Japanese tourists 54% fewer as compared to February 2013.

More tourist arrivals and overnight stays of foreign tourists in the first two months of 2014

In the first two months of this year an increase of 2% in all tourist arrivals was recorded as compared to the same period last year, while there were 2% fewer overnight stays of all tourists. Local tourists, in the first two months of 2014, generated 5% fewer tourist arrivals and 6% fewer overnight stays, and foreign tourists 8% more tourist arrivals and 2% more overnight stays as compared to last year during this period.
