British gay people on a honeymoon in Slovenia

When Great Britain adopted a law on 14 March 2014 and allowed homosexual partners to marry in the same way as heterosexual partners, a special edition of the popular British gay magazine Attitude was issued to mark this turning point. 25 of the most sought after tourist honeymoon destinations for British gay people were featured in the magazine and among them was also Slovenia.

When Great Britain adopted a law on 14 March 2014 and allowed homosexual partners to marry in the same way as heterosexual partners, a special edition of the popular British gay magazine Attitude was issued to mark this turning point. 25 of the most sought after tourist honeymoon destinations for British gay people were featured in the magazine and among them was Slovenia with the Otočec castle and the capital Ljubljana. But Slovenia offers much more than this.

The Imperial Luxury Travel Solutions travel agency created the first Slovenian travel programme for gay and lesbian people and their friends under the PinkWeek.eu trademark. The programme that takes place between 4 and 11 May 2014 in different tourist places in Slovenia enables one to experience a small part of Slovenia through short weekend packages and enables guests to choose their dream wedding destination. Matej Knific and Matej Valenčič, partners of the agency, are convinced that Slovenia can offer a lot as a destination of boutique tourism: "Enthusiastic reactions from visitors of the world`s largest tourism trade fair in Berlin and echoes in foreign media show that Slovenia is the new rising star in the field of LGBT tourism. For us it is of great pride and honour to be able to present Slovenia to a segment of tourists who usually choose between high-quality tourist offers and spend more money than average tourists". With our PinkWeek.eu project, we wish to further promote the beauties of Slovenia abroad.

The agency offers tourist packages of different price ranges that vary from EUR 500 to EUR 7000. The 4 day package includes a visit to the capital and a break at the dream-like Bled, whereas the 8 day packages include breaks in other parts of Slovenia. The Green Heart Package is appropriate for people who love nature. In the Snovik eco SPA resort, they take care of your regeneration and there are spectacular sunsets that can be seen from the valley. The Jet Set Package is perfect for people who love the sea. In the Kempinski Palace Hotel, the first and currently the only luxurious hotel in the »deluxe« category in Slovenia built in 1910, guests can refresh their souls with a view of the Adriatic Sea and walk along the Slovenian coast that offers wonderful sights such as the lovely coastal towns of Portorož, Piran and Izola. The Beauty Queen Package includes pampering in the Rogaška Slatina SPA – Hotel Aleksander, whereas the most expensive VIP Package includes, among other things, a flight to Venice with a private jet. Guests can visit the biggest subterranean system in Europe, spend a day on the Adriatic coast, enjoy the magnificent mountains and taste excellent Slovenian cuisine.

Our potential clients are gay and lesbian people who are 30 years of age and older and are looking for new holiday destinations and new experiences. Clients who are most interested in the Slovenian Pink Week come from France, England, Italy and Belgium. According to Knific, this project promotes Slovenia as a country friendly to gay and lesbian people. The fact that they spend twice as much as other tourists is certainly very positive. According to the data from a study carried out by GETA (Gay European Tourism Association), approximately 22 million heterosexual people create around EUR 50 billion in Europe and similar numbers are valid for the LGBT tourism in the USA as well.

Even though Slovenia`s greatest rivals are currently Vienna and Prague, Slovenia still has one advantage. Not only does it offer picturesque landscapes that combine the Gorenjska region and the possibility of visiting the Alps, the Slovenian coast and also the central part of Slovenia with the capital city of Ljubljana, but there are also the areas in the Zasavska, Savinjska, Koroška, Pomurska regions and the wine-growing areas of Podravje and Goriško. Inhabitants of the Slovenian Carinthia are also seen to be a true advantage. Slovenians are extremely hospitable, nice and friendly towards foreigners.
