March saw 6% more domestic tourist arrivals

The data for March 2014 shows that compared to March 2014 the overall number of overnight stays decreased by 2%, while the number of domestic tourist arrivals increased by 6%. In the first three months of 2014, the total number of tourist arrivals increased by 1% compared to the same period last year. In the first three months of this year, there was a 1% decrease in domestic tourist arrivals and a 4% decrease in overnight stays, while there was a 3% increase in foreign tourist arrivals and a 1% decrease in overnight stays compared to last year. There has been a rise in overnight stays in the mountain regions, while oreign tourists were mostly citizens of Italy, Austria, Germany, Russia, Croatia, Hungary and Serbia.

The data for March 2014 shows that compared to March 2014 the overall number of overnight stays decreased by 2%, while the number of domestic tourist arrivals increased by 6%. In the first three months of 2014, the total number of tourist arrivals increased by 1% compared to the same period last year. In the first three months of this year, there was a 1% decrease in domestic tourist arrivals and a 4% decrease in overnight stays, while there was a 3% increase in foreign tourist arrivals and a 1% decrease in overnight stays compared to last year. There has been a rise in overnight stays in the mountain regions. Most of the foreign tourists come to Slovenia from Italy, Austria, Germany, Russia, Croatia, Hungary and Serbia.

Most Nights Spent in Hotels and Apartments

In March 2014, most tourists stayed in hotels (72%), while 6% stayed in apartments and holiday resorts, 4% stayed in camps, and 3% in private accommodation.

More Overnight Stays in Mountain Areas

Most overnight stays in March 2014 were recorded in the vicinity of health resorts (39%). Mountain areas had 22% of overnight stays, which is a 9% increase compared to March 2013. Seaside areas had 17% of overnight stays, while the Ljubljana Municipality had 9%.

Fewer Overnight Stays in Hotels Than Last Year

Compared to March 2013, there was a 6% increase in tourists staying in youth hostels, as well as a 4% increase in private accommodation (rooms, apartments, houses). A 4% decrease was observed in overnight stays in hotels, while apartments and holiday resorts had a 1% decrease.

Among foreign tourists, most overnight stays were generated by Italian, Austrian, German, Russian Croatian, Hungarian, and Serbian tourists

In March 2014, foreign tourists made up 52% of total overnight stays. Foreign tourists were mostly Italians (19%), Austrians (16%), Germans and Russians (both 9%), Croatians (8%), Hungarians (5%) and Serbians (4%).

Less Overnight Stays by Tourists from Key Markets

Regarding tourists from important markets, there were more overnight stays by Russian (63% increase) and Serbian (2% increase) tourists compared to last year. On the other hand, the number of overnight stays decreased by Germans (7%), Austrians (13%), Croatians (17%) and Italians (25%) compared to last year.

More Foreign Tourist Arrivals in the First Quarter of 2014

In the first three months of 2014, the total number of tourists increased by 1%, while the number of overnight stays decreased by 2% compared to the same period last year. In the first three months of this year, there was a 1% decrease in domestic tourist arrivals and a 4% decrease in domestic overnight stays, while there was a 3% increase in foreign tourist arrivals and a 1% decrease in foreign overnight stays compared to last year.
