Successful stories from Slovenia

In April, Slovenia made its début at the tourist fair WTM Latin America in Sao Paolo and in May at the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai. The presentation there was held for the first time under the auspices of the public agency SPIRIT Slovenia. The mobile app Povio is producing even more success. The app was conceived by former Slovenian world-class freestyle snowboarder Matevž Petek.

In April, Slovenia made its début at the tourist fair WTM Latin America in Sao Paolo and in May at the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai. The presentation there was held for the first time under the auspices of the public agency SPIRIT Slovenia. The mobile app Povio is producing even more success. The app was conceived by former Slovenian world-class freestyle snowboarder Matevž Petek.

Slovenia introduced itself successfully at the 3-day WTM Latin America fair in Brazil`s Sao Paolo. Its first entry onto the Brazilian market was organized by the public agency SPIRIT Slovenia`s Tourism Division. The fair was attended by approximately 9,000 visitors, and around 1,300 exhibitors from around the world were on display.

Brazil is one of the tourism markets with the greatest growth, as Slovenian hospitality workers recorded an almost 50% rise in stays from Brazilian tourists compared to 2012. In addition to well-known European destinations, Brazilian tourists are seeking new regions not yet known to them, making Slovenia all the more attractive. The size and potential of the Brazilian market are therefore quite promising.

The Povio mobile app is also writing a successful Slovenian story, letting users share POV – point of view – photos. This is the brainchild of former world-class Slovenian snowboarder Matevž Petek, who launched his successful entrepreneurial career in California. The Slovenian Povio was also accepted by the esteemed American accelerator Y Combinator, and is only the second Slovenian company to achieve such success. The first was DoubleRecall, which tried to solve the challenge of monetizing content on the internet.
