Let this summer be a summer of Roman hedonism. Let Ljubljana be at the heart of your experience, as goes the slogan of the Ljubljana Festival. With its cosmopolitan spirit, the Ljubljana Festival will mark the 62nd summer of culture in Slovenia. Until 1 September, it will be host to a number of recognized artists from the world of music, musical theatre, and dance. Over the decades, the Ljubljana Festival, which is considered one of the most important festivals in both Slovenia and Europe, has shaped the summer spirit in the Slovenian capital. It has become a way of life during the summer holidays for visitors and residents alike. For many artists the Ljubljana Festival has become an important reference, and they love to come back.

This year`s 62nd edition of the Ljubljana Festival will be full of artistic highlights. It will be hosting two recognized artists, maestro Riccardo Muti and mezzo-soprano Elina Garanča, and until 1 September, visitors will have the chance to enjoy listening to world-renowned orchestras, including the Moscow Soloists, Filarmonica del Teatro Regio Torino, the Qingdao Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam, which is considered the best in the world. Pianists Boris Berezovski, Paul Badura-Skoda, Rostislav Krimer and Jean-Yves Thibaudet, the queen of flamenco María Pagés, the best ballet duets at the World Stars of Ballet Gala Evening, Stefan Milenković and Marko Hatlak with passionate tango, as well as many other artists will guarantee unforgettable experience at the Ljubljana Festival that will enrich your summer vacation. The second half of August is reserved for the musical Evita, with stars from the West End, and for the ballet Dangerous Liaisons, which is based on a novel by Pierre-François Choderlos de Laclos.

Most of the festival`s events will take place at the legendary complex of Križanke. This former monastery was built by the Teutonic order which arrived to Ljubljana in the early 13th century. The order established numerous hospitals, which were shelters for many travellers. In the 1950s, the most famous Slovenian architect Jože Plečnik remodelled Križanke into a site for the summer Ljubljana Festival after the architectural principles of the great Renaissance architects. Thus, Križanke became a beautiful and solemn place in times when architectural trends were not favourable to such designs.

When visiting Ljubljana, which this year celebrates 2000 years since as a Roman colony Emona it became a part of the 60-million empire, movie lovers should visit the summer cinema at Ljubljana Castle. The top of that hill was once a lookout spot for the ancient Romans. Today we can watch movie stars during summer evenings. Between 24 July and 16 August, screenings of the most acclaimed films of the last cinema season will be featured in the castle`s courtyard.

Long live summer evenings in Ljubljana! Let Ljubljana conquer your heart!
