Ljubljana among Europe’s top destinations

According to the Lonely Planet, the capital of Slovenia is ranked second among ten top European destinations for 2014. Ljubljana, a hit among all sorts of travellers from hipsters to the cosmopolitan, is inviting a growing number of visitors. A boat cruise on the Ljubljanica River gives you an even more charming perspective of the capital.

The best way to discover Ljubljana is on foot, by bike, or by the boat that takes you along the Ljubljanica River. Navigating through the old city centre with its remarkable bridges, picturesque building facades, and embankments casts Ljubljana in an even more splendid light. There is a wide choice of boats: Barjanka, Emonca, Ljubljana, Ljubljanica, Lea, Lana and Sulc. Which one is the most convincing? The prices are from 8 to 22 EUR for a cruise lasting up to 2 hours, and the captains also organise unforgettable group cruises complete with on-board meals.

Ljubljana is a vibrant capital throughout the whole year. Click here to find out more about the ongoing events in the city, which this year is celebrating its 2000 anniversary since the times it was known as the Roman Emona.

According to the figures, more than 500,000 tourists spent the night in Ljubljana during the first seven months of the year, which is 3% more than during the same period in 2013. The majority of tourists came from Italy, about a half less from Germany, while the Serbs are ranked third. There are also many tourists from Great Britain, Croatia, the United States of America, France, Austria, Russia, and Asian countries. One third of tourists visited Ljubljana on their holidays and the share of the guests visiting Ljubljana for business reasons is almost the same.
