Koper gets sweeter in September! On 20 and 21 September, the Slovenian coastal region transforms into Sweet Istria, when it proudly hosts the international festival of desserts and sweets. The festival sees artisans from all over Slovenian Istria, Slovenia, and abroad serve up their tasty treats. The festivities continue in November in Strunjan, home to the Persimmon Fruit Festival is organised. Welcome to delicious Slovenia!

At the festival in the heart of Koper visitors can learn about the ways of maintaining and continuing the tradition of making the sweet masterpieces of our ancestors, the new forms of modern and creative confections, and the production of confections in Slovenia. Visitors can also get acquainted with dulcet foreign masterpieces. The sweetest programme of this festival season is available here.

The "sweet roads" in Koper’s city centre put visitors providers face to face, so they can showcase their confections from Slovenian Istria, Slovenia, and abroad. Each artisan presents several different types of products, which visitors can taste with a coupon. The festival also offers various workshops and lectures. An important part of the festival are the competitions "Most Innovative Istrian Dessert", "Muscat of Sweet Istria", "Best Cake of Sweet Istria", and the exhibition "Ex-tempore Sweet Istria", presenting selected works of painters who participated in the festival.

The sweet festivities continue until the late autumn. From 14 to 16 November the Persimmon Fruit Festival is held in Strunjan. In the Strunjan Valley, these fruits of the gods have been cultivated for years. Most of Slovenian kaki fruit plantations are in the Strunjan Valley, because the climate and the fertile soil provide for a fruit of impeccable quality. During the festival, Strunjan transforms through its rich entertaining programme into a lively village persimmons. The delicious fruits, either fresh or processed and transformed into culinary delights, are available for purchase. There will be a variety of interesting lectures and artist exhibitions, in addition to an entertaining and cultural programme - and of course the gourmet experience!. Do not miss the contest for the biggest persimmon in Strunjan!
