More tourists in September

The September 2014 statistics, in comparison with September 2013, show that there were 1 % more tourist arrivals overall - with a 2 % increase in foreign tourists. There has been a rise in overnight stays in the municipalities that offer spa tourism. Most of the foreign tourists come from Germany, Austria, Italy, Great Britain and Russia. In the first ten months of this year, overnight stays increased by 1 % in comparison to last year.

More tourists in September

The September 2014 statistics, in comparison with September 2013, show that there were 1 % more tourist arrivals overall - with a 2 % increase in foreign tourists. There has been a rise in overnight stays in the municipalities that offer spa tourism. Most of the foreign tourists come from Germany, Austria, Italy, Great Britain and Russia. In the first ten months of this year, overnight stays increased by 1 % in comparison to last year.

Most tourist overnight stays in spa municipalities

The highest number of overnight stays in September 2014 was recorded in municipalities with spa tourism (27 % of all tourist overnight stays). Followed by coastal municipalities (24 % of all tourist overnight stays), alpine municipalities (23 % of all tourist overnight stays) and the Ljubljana municipality with 13 % of all tourist overnight stays.

German, Austrian, Italian, British and Russian tourists have generated the most overnight stays among foreign tourists

Foreign tourists have generated 70 % of all overnight stays in September 2014. Tourists from Germany and Austria each make up 15 %, 11 % are from Italy, while tourists from the United Kingdom and the Russian Federation each make up 5 %.

Most overnight stays in hotels

In September 2014 most of the tourists stayed in hotels (67 %), 11 % stayed in camps with the remainder staying in apartment and holiday resorts, private rooms, apartments and houses (each 4 %).

More overnight stays of Austrian and Italian tourists

Tourists from the major tourist markets generated more overnight stays in September 2014 compared with September 2013, with Austrian tourists staying 19 % more and Italian tourists staying 1 % more. Fewer overnight stays were generated by German tourists (4 % less), UK tourists (3 % less) and Russian Federation tourists (15 % less).

Increase in tourist arrivals in the first nine months of 2014

From January to September 2014, 2 % more tourist arrivals were registered than in the same period of the previous year. In the first nine months of this year, domestic tourists generated 1 % more overnight stays than in the same period last year.
