The skiing season in Slovenia is on

Slovenians are big skiing fans, so it comes as no surprise that this alpine country boasts such a large number of world-class slopes which thrill both domestic and foreign skiers. Winter time in Slovenia is magical. Kranjska Gora, which won the World Ski Award for best ski resort of 2014, will be particularly festive this year. Also visit Krvavec, the popular ski resort just outside of Ljubljana, where the ski lift was already fired up at the beginning of December. Skiers are also invited to try Vogel, one of the country’s most beautiful skiing destinations, located right above Lake Bohinj.

Great news from Slovenia! Kranjska Gofra, the ski resort on the triple border of Slovenia, Italy, and Austria, won the World Ski Award – the Oscars of skiing for the best ski resort of 2014. One of the oldest competition venues in the Alpine Skiing World Cup circuit is loved by professionals and beginners alike. Kranjska Gora will also be in great spirits on 18 January, during the Winter Magic Day, with its fun and engaging program for children, dancing, searching for the snowy corners of Slovenia, and its charity drives for underprivileged children.

Krvavec, Ljubljana’s closest ski resort at an altitude of between 1450 and 1971 meters above sea level, has 30 kilometres of immaculately groomed trails for both beginning and experienced skiers, fresh mountain air, and heaps of golden sunshine. Its home is nestled in the beautiful Alps, just a few kilometres from the Ljubljana airport. This season will be especially exciting, as the resort will be celebrating FIS’s World Snow Day, with fun for the whole family. Don’t miss the Snow Beach Party, ewhere skiers will fresh off the slopes and will also get to enjoy an unforgettable party.

Vogel, another of the popular ski resorts in Slovenia, lies in the Triglav National Park, right above the picturesque Lake Bohinj. Every metre of your ride on the gondola or ski lift opens up another beautiful dimension of the mountainous realm. Vogel’s advantages are skiing on natural snow, great position in terms of sun, and absolutely spectacular scenery. Those who are a little more daring will also have great fun at the Vogel Snow Park.

During winter, numerous mountain peaks in Slovenia are covered with white blankets. Rogla, one of the most popular ski centres in eastern Slovenia, promises not only a wonderful time in the snow, but also a range of excellent culinary experiences. You can treat yourself to a game dish in one of the local restaurants. Alternatively, take a city bus ride from Maribor, the second largest city in Slovenia, to visit Pohorje, home of the traditional Golden Fox, the women’s World Cup skiing event.

The award-winning ski center Cerkno in western Slovenia is also a tempting winter destination. In addition to its modern ski lifts, Cerkno also offers unforgettable vistas, as visitors can see all the way to Triglav, Slovenia’s highest peak.
