TripAdvisor ranks Bled among top ten fairy-tale destinations

With its beauty and uniqueness, the iconic Bled at the heart of the Julian Alps resembles a true fairy-tale land. It is no wonder that TripAdvisor placed it among ten most charming tourist destinations in the world.

Beyond nine mountains, nine rivers, nine ponds, nine forests, nine springs lies a small magical town, surrounding a lake. With its beauty and uniqueness, the iconic Bled at the heart of the Julian Alps resembles a true fairy-tale land. It is no wonder that TripAdvisor placed it among ten most charming tourist destinations in the world.

Time stops in Bled. This small Alpine settlement around the glacier Lake Bled lies in northwest Slovenia, safely surrounded by mountains. Due to its spectacular and handy location near Triglav National Park, Bled is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Slovenia. Breath-taking surroundings and developed tourist infrastructure impress numerous visitors both from Slovenia and abroad.

Take a walk around the lake and rest on a bench to enjoy a view of the magnificent surroundings. Remember to take a slice of bread to feed ducks and swans. In summer you can even join them for a swim. In winter ice-skating on the icy lake surface is also very popular activity.

But the most famous and popular activity on the lake is a trip with the traditional Pletna boat, operated by a careful oarsman. You will land on the island, which is a town symbol and a former site of an ancient pagan temple, dedicated to the goddess Živa. Today, a single-nave church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, built at the end of the 17th century, rises on the only island in Slovenia. A pre-Roman and Roman foundations are preserved under the church, and it still houses important frescoes and has a rich baroque interior. Ring the church bell and listen to the story about a sunken bell. Ancient places are surrounded by numerous legends, which only wait to be discovered.

Ascend the picturesque Bled castle and enjoy breath-taking views. For history enthusiasts a visit to a castle museum is a must. It tells a mysterious history of this fairy-tale place and a magnificent fort, whose story dates back to 1004. We also recommend a visit to the castle gothic chapel with baroque interior. Of course, no visit is complete without tasting the legendary Bled cream cake.
