Slovenia, the host of world sporting events

Slovenia is a land of active people. Sportspeople with physical endurance competing on snowy slopes and in Nordic disciplines rule in wintertime. Everyone will cheer on their favourites at the world cup competitions hosted by Slovenia in 2015. The competitors for the best places compete in skiing, ski jumping, biathlon and winter swimming. The heated atmosphere of loud cheering and even roaring will keep out the cold.

On the white ski slopes of Golden Fox and Vitranc Cup

Between 21 and 22 February, the best female slalom and giant slalom skiers will be winding between the ski poles on Maribor Pohorje slopes. The skier with the sum of the best total times will win the Golden Fox. In 51 years of the competition, three Slovenian skiers have received Golden Fox awards.

The best male skiers will compete at the Vitranc Cup in Kranjska Gora. The slalom and giant slalom skiers will race downhill on the Podkoren ski run on 14 and 15 March. This is one of the toughest ski tracks of the International Ski Federation.

Fly on ski jumps in Planica

Planica will host the World Cup Ski Jumping Final between 19 and 22 March. The valley below Ponce is a known record holder since, in addition to numerous visitors; it is also where new world records in ski flying are set every year. In the long tradition of the competition, which has been taking place since 1934, Slovenians have stood on the highest step of the winning podium several times.

Winter swimming in Slovenian waters

An endless amount of positive energy will radiate this winter in Bled. The Bled Winter Swimming Cup 2015 will take place at Lake Bled on 21 February. In cold water at temperatures around 5°C, brave swimmers will prove their stamina in competitions over 25 and 50 metres. If the competitors are not warmed up by the sporting spirit and encouragement of their rivals, they will be able to warm their shivering bodies in near-by saunas and indoor swimming pools.
