Love is so strong that it connects its mountains and the sea, forests and waters, fields and vineyards, the earth and the sky. Slovenians like to pay tribute to love with a holiday called the St. Gregory`s Day, Slovenian Valentine’s Day, celebrated on 12 March.

Welcome to the country where love is very powerful. It connects the sea and mountains, forests and waters, fields and vineyards, the secrets of the karst underworld and the light of the sky. According to Slovenian tradition, love is the reason for so much beauty on a small piece of the world. And only in Slovenian is dual preserved around the country. Therefore, you are never alone in Slovenia, you are always in a pair. If not otherwise, you are in a pair with a lovely and intimate country.

On 12 March, Slovenians celebrate the St. Gregory`s Day, the holiday of love. They say that birds get married on this day, as, according to the former Julian calendar, this was the first day of spring. This was the name day of Saint Gregory the Great who was known as the light bearer. Experience one of Radovljica`s most magical event. On the eve of St Gregory`s Day, the iron-foundry pool in the village of Kropa and the Lipnica Stream in the village of Kamna Gorica are illuminated with candles affixed to the floating art creations of local children.

On the St. Gregory`s Day, the DOPPS – Birdlife Slovenia (the Bird Watching and Study Association of Slovenia) organises the action of bird study called "Birds get married" in town parks in Murska Sobota, Beltinci, Ljutomer and Radenci. Visit the eastern region of Slovenia, meet numerous bird species and learn how to make suitable nest boxes.
