Sports events

International tourist guides describe Slovenia as a green country of active and hard-working people. Many Slovenians start their days by jogging or cycling. After work, they make time for a quick walk to a nearby hill. Their love for active pursuits and the active spending of leisure time is also demonstrated by their participation in recreational sports events, which include endurance tests, tests of strength, team spirit and the motto that it is the taking part not winning that counts.

The popularity of cycling is reflected in many cycling events, which mostly include recreational cyclists. Test your physical condition and endurance at the traditional Marathon Franja, which has been taking place since 1982. The marathon is an official candidate for inclusion in the series of the best cycling events in the world under the auspices of the International Cycling Union, UCI Golden Bike. The first Saturday in September is usually reserved for Ride on Vršič, the ascent on the highest Slovenian mountain pass. Merely reaching the finishing line is a victory in its own right. Awake the fan and supporter in you and cheer on the best professional cyclists during the annual Tour of Slovenia. International cycling associations compete in stage tests throughout Slovenia.
