The centre of Ljubljana is enriched by the city’s largest park, Tivoli Park. You can set out in search of energy and revitalisation to the neighbouring hills or the Ljubljana Marshes, where the world’s oldest wooden wheel with an axle was found dating back 5,200 years. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why there are so many bicycles in Ljubljana. Pedal your way to get to the very best of what the city has to offer. In the midst of the grassland and wetland of the Marshes, remnants of a thousand-year-old culture of pile-dwellers were discovered and entered on the UNESCO List of World Heritage sites. Look up and gaze at the façades of the colourful buildings whose character was crafted by the architect Jože Plečnik.

See the Dragon Bridge, the symbol of the city, and ascend to Ljubljana Castle, the medieval fortress rising above the city, from where the entire Ljubljana will seem within reach. Ljubljana is a gourmet’s paradise. Everything begins at the market which features produce from around Slovenia. The Open Kitchen food market takes place there on Fridays from May to October with freshly prepared delicacies available on its stalls.
