The emerald Soča River springs in the Julian Alps where it springs with full force and continues its 136 kilometre journey to the Adriatic Sea. At the beginning of its journey, it is childlike, playful and a true paradise for lovers of white water adventures. Raise your heartbeat with rafting, canyoning or hydrospeed. The Soča is a magnet for kayakers and brave riders of water rapids.

There are many great starting points along the river for cycling and hiking trips. The surrounding mountain peaks offer magnificent views. Breathtaking gorges are hidden among the mountains which were created by smaller tributaries of the Soča River. The Tolmin Gorges, the lowest point in Triglav National Park, are also beautiful, and Veliki Kozjak is the most picturesque waterfall in Slovenia.

There are plenty of activities available by the Soča River. The most important one is fishing. The season opens at the beginning of April and attracts many anglers. The Soča is a popular and elite location for fly fishing due to its tributaries and surrounding beauty. The true river gem is the Soča trout, a species of fish native to the northern Adriatic, which until recently was one of the most endangered fresh water species in the area.

The Soča River Valley obtained the title of EDEN destination for its rich stories from the past. Listen to them at the Soča River Stories event, which takes place at the end of April. Hear stories from the First World War and its effects on life in the valley. The purpose of the event is to transform the dark memories and raise the value of the rich cultural, ethnological and natural heritage and the importance of peace. Take the Walk of Peace from the Alps to the Adriatic, a path which connects regions and people along the former Isonzo Front in the First World War.

The Soča River Valley is a magnificent example of integration, peace and active vacationing. Find its hidden corners. Let the flow of the emerald Soča River take you through pristine nature, unforgettable experiences, diverse flavours and tempestuous history.
