Slovenia to host a meeting of the 16 + 1 platform

This year, Slovenia is hosting a high-profile meeting of the 16 + 1 platform, an organisation of the countries of Central and East Europe and China. The summit of ministers responsible for tourism creates a big tourism and travel bridge between the Old Continent and the Far East. Slovenia will be hosting the president of the China National Tourism Administration for the first time. The event will take place during the renowned Bled Strategic Forum, between 31 August and 1 September 2015.

The visit by the highest tourism representative of China is the biggest opportunity so far for Slovenia to establish firm partner relationships on home soil. Slovenia will host the president of the China National Tourism Administration and his delegation with highest honours at the iconic Lake Bled, in the heart of the Gorenjska region, by the idyllic Alpine lake, which has the only lake island in Slovenia. The event will certainly boost ties and lead to successful cooperation in the coming years. According to Karmen Novarlič, the head of the tourism sector at SPIRIT Slovenia, “China is among the fastest-growing tourist markets in the world, which is also felt in Slovenia. The number of visits and overnight stays of Chinese tourists in Slovenia is growing every year.”

Most Chinese guests visit Slovenia in the summer, and make most stops in major Slovenian towns, with Ljubljana leading the way with almost 60% of all their overnight stays. Ljubljana is followed by mountain tourist centres and natural attractions of Slovenia.

The Bled Strategic Forum, a dialogue between leaders from the private and public sectors on key issues which Europe is facing in the 21st century, has distinguished itself lately as one of the most prominent high-profile international conference. This year’s 10th edition has the slogan “Visions of New Partnerships”. In addition to the main forum, the Business BSF and the Young BSF are on the agenda between 31 August and 1 September.
