Slovenia welcomes you to the Expo Milan world exhibition

The Expo Milan 2015 world exhibition ceremonially opened its doors with a bang. Visit the innovative Slovenian pavilion and feel the lovely country between the Alps and the Mediterranean.

The Expo Milan 2015 world exhibition ceremonially opened its doors with a bang. Visit the innovative Slovenian pavilion and feel the lovely country between the Alps and the Mediterranean. It is green, active and healthy – completely in accordance with the mission and slogan of the Expo. At the exhibition, we have also unveiled the new digital General Tourism Catalogue of Slovenia in the form of a practical mobile application which will help you learn about the beauties of SLOVEnia even faster. The regions of Primorsko-notranjska and Savinjska will be comprehensively presented at the Slovenian pavilion in July.

Feel green, active and healthy Slovenia, which has the word love in its name. A folk tale says that love is what connects the sea with the mountains, forests with waters, fields with vineyards and the secrets of the underworld and the light of the sky. You can also get to know this attractive country, where everything is within easy reach and where you can jump from the city to a ski centre and from there to the sea in one day, in Milan in the new General Tourism Catalogue in the form of a mobile application (in Italian, German and Slovenian). Discover stories about Ljubljana and dragons, the Alps and Goldhorn, healing waters, the soft heart of the Slovenian karst, a salty love, delightful tastes, mighty forests and courageous Slovenians.

A number of interesting events are scheduled to take place at the Slovenian pavilion. The entire pavilion works as a fairy tale of fresh and green views around Slovenia, as it is built entirely of wood and is designed to resemble the diverse Slovenian landscape. Take a walk inside the pavilion around small salt-extraction ponds and thermal springs and Slovenia’s highest peak, Mt Triglav, while also learning about the work and life of honeybees.

The regions of Primorsko-notranjska and Savinjska will be comprehensively presented in July. You can best experience the beauties of the Primorsko-notranjska region the when you enter the mysterious world of the underground. The water there has created caves of unusual shapes and other karst phenomena. Make a stop to visit Postojna Cave, one of the best known tourist caves and one of the largest karst monuments in the world. It is the home of proteus, a true cave dragon. Another phenomenon of the region is the intermittent Lake Cerknica, which becomes the largest lake in Slovenia when it fills up. When dry, it can serve as a hiking or cycling route.

The Savinjska region is guarded by the magnificent peaks of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. Lying in their embrace is the Logar Valley, one of the most beautiful glacial valleys in Europe. Together with Robanov kot and Matkov kot, it creates a harmony of three valleys known as Solčavsko. In 2009, the destination became a European Destination of Excellence (EDEN). Welcome to Celje, the centre of the region. Above the city of counts along the Savinja River rises the largest medieval castle in Slovenia. Its walls offer a picturesque view of broad fields and hop plantations. Hops are an important ingredient in beer, which has been brewed in Laško, EDEN Destination of Excellence 2013, since 1825.
