The Telegraph is excited about the Taste of Slovenia

Steve Fallon, the Telegraph Travel’s Slovenia expert, prepared a list of Slovenian restaurants with supreme local cuisine, unique wine lists and the romantic addition of panoramic views. Check where the best places for spoiling your taste buds are hidden.

Slovenia has 24 different culinary regions which offer excellent food and superb wines. These particularities were also recognised by The Telegraph. Taste the culinary and gastronomic diversity of Slovenia at family inns, distinctive osmica inns and restaurants which give dishes a modern touch. Many are part of the Gostilna Slovenije trademark, with inns and restaurants serving Slovenian dishes with regional and local specialities and local delicacies.

The influences of different cultures, Slovenian and international, are masterfully intertwined in Ljubljana. A popular and protected Kranjska sausage in different combinations can be tasted at Klobasarna in the centre of the capital. For a more homely atmosphere and very delicious Slovenian food, visit Güjžina or Špajza, two of Steve Fallon’s favourites. Gourmets with distinguished palates can visit Gostilna na Gradu at Ljubljana Castle. The Hot Horse in Tivoli Park serves horse meat and is very popular among fast food lovers.

Slovenia is intertwined with its delicious diverse flavours. Seafood prevails in the Primorska region (Pri Mari, Casa Nostromo, Restavracija Proteus), while the Gorenjska region is known for its hearty rural cuisine (Gostilna Rupa, Oštarija Peglez`n, Gostilna Avguštin, Restavracija 1906). In Posočje, you taste a mixture of Alpine and coastal influences (Hiša Franko, Topli Val). The Štajerska region and the Pannonian Plain offer simple homely dishes (Gostišče Jurg, Gril Ranca, Gostilna Ribič). Taste Slovenia!
