More arrivals and overnight stays by tourists in February

Data for February 2015 show that 14% more arrivals and 13% more overnight stays were recorded in accommodation facilities than in the same period in 2014. Domestic tourists count for more than half of overnight stays, while most overnight stays were recorded in health resorts.

More arrivals and overnight stays by foreign tourists than in February 2014

Some 14% more arrivals and 13% more overnight stays were recorded in accommodation facilities in February 2015 than in the same period last year. The arrival of domestic tourists was 13% higher and the number of overnight stays was 10% higher compared to February 2014. The number of arrivals and overnight stays of foreign tourists was 16% higher.

Growth in overnight stays is highest in mountain municipalities

In February 2015, health resorts generated 38% of all overnight stays. They are followed by mountain municipalities (30%), seaside municipalities (12%) and the Municipality of Ljubljana (7%). The number of overnight stays in mountain municipalities was 19% higher compared to February 2014; in seaside municipalities, it was 12% higher, in the Municipality of Ljubljana 9% and in the health resort municipalities 8%.

More than half of all overnight stays were generated by domestic tourists

Domestic tourists generated 56% of overnight stays in Slovenia in February 2015, and foreign 44%. Key markets from which foreign tourists arrived in Slovenia and also generated the most overnight stays in February were: Italy (20%), Austria (13%), Croatia (12%), Serbia and Hungary (7% each). In February 2015, tourists from Serbia generated 36% more overnight stays, tourists from Italy 25% and tourists from Austria 16% more overnight stays than in February 2014.

More arrivals and overnight stays in the first two months of 2015

The arrival of tourists in January and February increased by 12% and the number of overnight stays increased by 9% compared to the same period in 2014. In the first two months of 2015, foreign tourists generated 12% more arrivals and 9% more overnight stays, while domestic tourists generated 11% more arrivals and 10% more overnight stays than in the same period last year.
