Slovenian Network of Youth Hostels Best in the World

Hostelling International Slovenia, a member of the International Youth Hostel Federation (IYHF), was awarded the elite prize given to world`s best hostels. Among the 41 competing countries, Slovenia was placed at the very top of the list, proving that the quality of our services puts us side to side with larger countries. The success was the result of high marks given to 10 Slovenian hostels that all together received an average rating of 93.3%.

Hostelling International Slovenia is the only Slovenian representative in the International Youth Hostel Federation (IYHF), the most extensive lodging network in the world. The organization unites more than 4,500 hostels in over 80 countries, 39 of them in Europe. The Federation members include the hostels of Tresor and YH Ljubljana in the Slovenian capital, Alieti in Izola, Bledec in Bled, Pekarna and Uni in Maribor, Histria in Koper, Proteus in Postojna, Menina in Rečica ob Savinji and Hostel Radenci in Radenci. From January to May 2015, these hostels achieved an average rating of 93.3%, winning Slovenia the title of the country with the best youth hostel network in the world.

President of Hostelling International Slovenia Igor Jurišič is proud of the achievement: "We`re particularly glad that the first place was awarded to us by guests who stayed at the hostels, thus helping us beat Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland, Iceland and 36 other countries. We at Hostelling International Slovenia are aware of responsibilities and significance delegated to us by the Slovenian Tourism Development Strategy 2012–2016, so we`re always glad when our international achievements demonstrate our contribution to Slovenia`s recognisability as a destination of excellence. Slovenia cannot compete in numbers of visitors or low prices; it can compete only through quality and diversity of offer, which are definitely proven by this achievement." Guests rated the characteristics and features of the accommodation facilities in categories ranging from friendliness and comfort to location and cleanliness. None of the 10 hostels received a rate lower than 90%, which is a further acknowledgement of the quality of Slovenian hostels.
