Delicious and Green Solčavsko

Solčavsko, the three valleys in harmony, invites everybody to be embraced by it while discovering its nature and cultural heritage. Take a stop in the most beautiful Alpine glacial valley, Logarska Dolina, and get yourself a bowl of home-made sour milk. Admire the green landscape and conquer one of the nearby mountain peaks in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps and Karavanke range.

Solčavsko is the country of three valleys located among the mighty peaks of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps and Karavanke. Logarska dolina is one of the most beautiful glacial valleys in Europe and an excellent starting point for conquering the nearby mountain peaks. Large mountain farms which today continue the agriculture and livestock farming tradition have been preserved in the valley Robanov kot. The sour milk produced there is, by far, one of the best. Matkov kot valley is known to be the youngest glacial valley in the upper part of the Savinja river basin. It is adorned by a peculiar natural sight, Matkov škaf. A crater-like snow tub which carries a 40 metre high waterfall.

Take a bicycle to hit the Panoramic Road, with its start and finish in Solčava. Follow the sign Podolševa which will take you past numerous sights such as the baroque church of the Holy Spirit and the spring of sour water. The footpath leads all to Potočka zijalka under the mountain of Olševa, one of the most important Karst caves in Slovenia. The bones of a cave bear and tools of hunters from the Stone Age from 30,000 years ago were found there.

In the summer, Solčavsko tempts visitors with various events. At the new fossil exhibition, Stories Written in Stone, you will learn about the geology of the Kamnik-Savinje Alps and Karavanke. Some fossil finds from the Middle Ages are exhibited which have classified Slovenia as one of the most important fossil locations in the world. Several models present life in the prehistoric sea from 240 million years ago. In Rinka Centre, there are thematic exhibitions adapted to various seasons.

In summer, Solčavsko is an excellent starting point for alpine trips, hiking and biking excursions. In winter when the landscape is covered with snow it becomes an ideal base for skiing, cross-country skiing and sledding. Once in the valley, you are welcomed by kind locals who are eager to share ancient stories written by life and lived in the farms. While listening to their stories try and treat yourself to local delicacies. Taste Savinjski želodec (stuffed pig`s stomach), the local speciality with protected designation of origin, or the Solčavsko savoury strudel and ravioli. When you feel thirsty, drink home-made fruit juices and teas and make a toast with one of the home-made brandies.

What you feel when you arrive to Solčavsko is admiration. What inspires you is enjoyment. The feeling that fills you when you see the views is respect. What tempts you is discovery. You are invited to Solčavsko, three valleys in harmony, to visit interesting summer events:

* The Kamnik-Savinje Alps Hiking Festival, 23 June - 28 June

* Sustainable Mobility Festival in Logarska Dolina, 28 June

* Days of Solčava, 24 June - 26 June
