Successful presentation of Slovenia in China

Slovenia had successfull presentations at International meeting of the World Tourism Organisation in Xian and at CEEC Investment and Trade EXPO in Ningbo.

Successful presentation of Slovenia in China

The international meeting of the World Tourism Organisation took place in Xi`an, China, focusing on the development of tourism on the Silk Road. Petra Stušek, Managing Director of Ljubljana Tourism, also gave a lecture at the important event and presented the vision of sustainable development of the multiple-award-winning Slovenian capital. Prior to the meeting of the 16+1 platform, which connects China and Central and Eastern European Countries, Slovenia successfully participated at the Ningbo EXPO event. Karmen Novarlič, Head of the Tourism Division at SPIRIT Slovenia Public Agency, and Dr Andrej Fištravec, the Mayor of Maribor, presented Slovenia as a tourist destination.

The United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) in cooperation with the China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) organised a meeting on the topic of tourism development on the Silk Road between 18 and 20 June. The event was held in Xi`an, China, which brought together high political representatives and ministers from around the world, including experts in the field of tourism, preservation of heritage, marketing and development. One of the guest lecturers was also Petra Stušek, Managing Director of Ljubljana Tourism, who presented the vision of sustainable development of the multiple-award-winning Slovenian capital. In her contribution, she spoke about the marketing of Ljubljana as a tourist destination and she also participated at the panel discussion on “The Future of Travel: Social Media, Mobile and the Booking Revolution”. The organisers were particularly interested in the approach of Ljubljana Tourism towards social media, connecting with Facebook and Twitter users and their personal approach. The panel was moderated by Nick Easen, a renowned journalist from BBC World News.

The CEEC – Investment and Trade EXPO took place in Ningbo, China, which also included the Governors and Mayors’ Forum, denoting the cooperation of China and 16 Central and Eastern European Countries. Slovenia as a tourist destination was presented by Karmen Novarlič, Head of the Tourism Division at SPIRIT Slovenia Public Agency, and Dr Andrej Fištravec, the Mayor of Maribor, the second largest town in Slovenia.

Slovenian representatives attended a joint press conference with Croatia and Hungary. They expressed their confidence in the new 16+1 platform, which combines China and Central and Eastern European Countries. Slovenia will be this year’s host of the meeting of the new 16+1 platform, which involves the organisation of the meeting at the highest level of ministers responsible for tourism. Slovenia will be hosting the President of the Chinese National Tourism Administration and the accompanying Chinese delegation for the first time, while also hosting Bled Strategic Forum from 31 August to 2 September 2015.
